2021 Constitutional Speech Contest
March 12-13, 2021
The American Legion’s National High School Oratorical Scholarship Program – “A Constitutional Speech Contest” aims to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students.
Scholarships totaling $5,000 will be awarded to students taking part in the state contest. The state winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship, plus an expenses paid trip to Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete in the national contest for a part of the $188,000 national scholarship pool.
Other objectives of the contest include the development of leadership qualities, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparation for acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American citizenship.
If you are a high school student who would like to participate, or a teacher or parent of a student who would like to participate, please use this website to gain a better understanding of the contest.
To apply for the contest, download the application form in the “Student Application” section above and return it to your local Post, Unit, Squadron or District Contest Chairman as instructed. Remember all applications must be received by the State Contest Chairman by January 31, 2021. Contestants must be certified by their sponsor by February 15, 2021.
To find local contact information for your area, you can look in “Contact Us” tab above.
Note: We are planning for a safe, socially distanced, in-person contest at Ephrata High School. It is requested that only the contestant and their chaperone attend (rather than bringing the entire family to be spectators). The volunteer staff will be kept to the minimum required. We will be putting into practice safety measures including facemasks, hand sanitizer, temperature screening and surface disinfection protocols.
